Today started out nasty. Cold and windy as all get out. Had business in Yarnell but not until after 8:30. Phillip decided to put chicken and veggies in the crock pot so dinner would be ready when we got home. Figured since we had to go down as far as Yarnell we could go on down to the desert where it was warmer at least. Figured maybe it wasn't windy down there. First fart came when the damn power went off as soon as the crock pot started to boil. Phillip had a cussing fit until it came back on. Didn't get out of here til after 9:00. Got to Yarnell only to hit fart #2. Man I had to see was too busy to get to my business til after noon. Shit!! Since we were going down on the desert anyway decided to go on into Wickenburg to do my business. Got in there and hit fart # 3. Had to wait around a half hour in the bank til a notary was free only to hit fart #4. She said she couldn't notarize a paper for me because my drivers licence was out of date. Did she figure I ceased to exist when my drivers license expired? Hell, I don't drive down here. Went over to a Real estate office where I had no problem with a photo drivers license even if it was out of date. Got my paper notarized and we headed out toward Aguila. Found a road we saw on a map and went in the gate. Wow! the road was a wide graded one through the state land. We knew it was in blocks of state and private land, but the map showed the road going through. Got in a mile and ran into fart#5. Road used to go through. Sign on the gate still said please close the gate behind you. But the damn thing was locked and was now up for sale on 10 to 40 acre tracts. There were some low hills in the area so we got out in the Fart #6 ,cold wind. Phillip took a long 2 hour hike to get over his mad and look for rocks over in the low hills. I stayed within sight of the rig and looked for arrowheads. Found a bunch of chips but no arrowheads. I finally froze out and went back to the car and read. Phillip came back empty handed.
At least the power didn't go off again and the chicken was done when we got back home.
A sign spring has come to AZ is when the vultures have returned. We did see a vulture out by Aguila and the other day we saw one at Bagdad. Both places are quite a bit warmer. No vultures yet at vulture peak, Congress , Yarnell or anywhere near Wilhoit yet. The cottonwoods have to leaf out in these areas before the vultures come.
The desert is so dry that any flowers at all are only 2 or 3 inches tall. Even the lupins and poppies. Baaaad.
Bedtime for Granny.
