Out and about.

Why is it, one never has a camera when you see something really out of the ordinary?

On our way down to the river this morning, we saw a big bull elk cross the road in front of us.  Damn strange to see one down here on the flats.  Must have been on his way from the hills on the east, and going to the hills on the west.  We did see some cow elk a few years back, right along the road over by the hills west of us.  They were out in a hay field.  Not too uncommon to see them over there when the forage in the hills is poor.  Also too damn many cows in the hills, but the cows can't jump the fences like the elk.

Out and about.

Coming home this am from Yarnell, the top of the hill was covered in
yellow. All the brittle brush was blooming, and no camera.

More pics from before.

Out and about.

Phillp and I went up into the mountains.  It was a beautiful sunny day, but a whole lot cooler than it was the last time we went up there.  Parked at a place we have used a lot.  I like it there because ther is little trafic this time of year and I love to watch the birds and  all the other animals.  The last time we went up, it was hot, and everywhere Phillip wanted to look for walking sticks, there was somebody already in that parking spot, so we went up to a place we had never parked before.  Bad idea, because I got flea bite all over my legs.  Still have the red spots.  Damn fleas are nasty buggers.  Never go there again.

Out and about

Went into town yesterday, and when we went to get in the truck, there was a bird inside wanting to get out.   That's what happens when you leave the windows open.

If it ain't the grasshoppers eating up the garden, it's the damn rats.  Phillip went out to water the garden this am, and found the rats had chewed a chunk out of the first zucchini there was.  Blasted things.  It's a bit depressing to find the garden overtaken by the critters and bugs.  Makes a person wonder if it is all worth it.   We were talking today about when we moved here, and Phillip planted a garden.  Planted it back of the house, a 12 inch high  chicken wire around it, and we had potatoes, zucchini and beets when we went up to Idaho that year , at the last of May  Hard to believe it now.   I guess the birds, bugs and critters just haden't found us yet by then.

Everyone take care.  Love ya'll.  Granny

Visit.

Mike Gindy and Alex came to visit. Its been a long time since we have
seen them. So good to see them too. Just not enough time to visit.
Maybe next year they can stay longer. Not enough time to get in all
the news. Alex was just a baby the last time I saw him, and now he is
getting to be a good looking young man. Smart to I might add
.No painting today, too keyed up. I really need to take a nap.
Love ya'll, Granny.

Done!

I finished up the painting I was working on before the clouds came in.  We got clouds, but no rain.  We need the rain.  Lots of rain going on, but seems to go around us.

The 7th was Mom and Freds birthday.

We had stuff packed up in case we had to evacuate because of the fire.  Fire went the other direction. Just seems like we packed it up for the Yarnell one last year.  Might as well leave it packed.  Fires all the time , every summer it seems.

Oh well,  great life if you don't weaken.

Rain?

Cloudy again today, no good light to paint. We did get a sprinkle
yesterday. Rain predicted, but I'll believe it when it falls.

Phillip picked the blackberries in the garden again. Going to make
syrup like last time. So good on pancakes.

Did you see the Mueller fiasco? Mueller acted just like a kid who had
a book report that his Mother wrote for him, and then he had to tell
about it in class. Couldn't do it. Made him look, Stupid. Tuff
stuff.

River

Went down to the river yesterday, Still a bit of water flowing. Much
more like a creek than a river. Lots of little dark particulates all
over the place. Must have fallen out of the massive high colum of
smoke that billowed up. At one point the fire was only a couple of
miles away. Lots of people back in that area. 2 communities, One
active gold mine, 6 very large ranches and a vineyard. Fire still not
contained, but wind has died down a lot. More thunderstorms predicted.
Hope no more fires.

fire

Cellar fire still burning. FS just watching it burn. A lot of it
that was only in brush has burned itself out, but it is in some
juniper timber now. Has grown in a long swath, because of the wind.
Now fire is more than 30 miles from us and sill in a easterly
direction for the most part. Wind blowing from the SW right now.

Been a while since the last post.  Jeannine and Mary have had birthdays since then.

Have a forest fire going not too far from the town of Wilhoit. About 10 miles as the crow flies.  Good thing, the wind has been in our favor for the last few days,  Blowing the smoke and the fire away from us.  One town has been evacuated. Fire is burning toward an area that was burned a couple of years ago.  Mostly brush and junipers in this area.  FS is not fighting the fire, they are letting it burn.  Just hope the wind don't switch because the area North of the fire is in very heave ponderosa pine forest.

Down by the river.  Flowers are purple, but don't show up too good in the pic.

Cloudy

Phillip planted this bush last year. Smell so good.

Cloudy today so I didn't get a chance to paint.. Working on 2 small
ones right now. Thinking about another prospector painting. Haven't
made up my mind for sure yet. A lot of things affect my mood to
paint, and what to paint. Same thing with my mood to write. It took
me a while to get in the mood to write my short book, "New Beginnings"
an 3 years to write it.. I gave Bob a copy of it. I wanted to put it
on the blog here a few pages at a time, but don't know how to take it
from a Microsoft works and do it. I have even been thinking about
adding to the story about Sonny, in " So You Want To Be A
Prospector?". Oh well, I should live so long.

Saturdaty

One of those dreary days Cloudy and drizzly. I did get the dog
sketched in the miner painting I'm working on, but no good light to
paint. Just piddled around on the computer and listened to Phillip
talk about a rock he found yesterday. It is about the size of a large
grapefruit. Weighs about 10 pounds or more. Bright sparkly material
with quartz and pyrites in it. Not magnetic. I say silver, but I
don't know for sure what it is. Interesting though.
Granny

gold

Took this a couple of years ago. This is an area where Phillip has
been getting good gold every time he goes up there. Lots of flour
gold, about a gram or so along with about 3 grams of fines plus a few
pickers.. Every now and then he comes up with a real nice nugget. We
don't think most people even realize how much fine and flour gold
there is still in that river. Harder to recover it if you don't use
mercury. He most likely go back up again next week some time. We had
some more rain, and the water level came back up again.

Supposed to be mostly cloudy today, so can't paint. I have put a lot
of time into the painting I'm working on now, and it still isn't done.
Almost though.

Have a nice day all, Love ya, Granny.

Arrrgh!

Another one of those nights. Going to have to take a nap.

Thursday, May 9, 2019

Yep!

And he ain't kidding.

Cloudy day.

Ouch!! That's bound to smart a bit. That is what could happen to a
person if they aren't careful where they step. You don't always have
to be down on the desert to meet up with a rattler. Phillip almost
stepped on one up where he was panning in the mountains last fall. He
said the darn thing didn't even make a sound, or a move to let him
know he was laying on that log Phillip wanted to step over. It was
early in the morning and the snake was still lethargic from the cool
night. Damn good thing too.
I remember when we were kids in Utah and we went picking wild
blackberries with my Grandmother. There was a rattlesnake coiled up
on a blackberry branch we wanted to pick, and he wasn't about to leave
it for us. I guess he was just laying around waiting for some
unsuspecting critter to want blackberries. I doubt he would ever eat
them himself.

Speaking of panning, that's where Phillip is today. I thought I was
going to paint, but unpredicted clouds same in to spoil the idea.

The miner painting got me o thinking about good old Joe Bloe (aka
known as Sonny,), up there at the Blue Mountain Mining co. in Montana.
Wonder just how he is doing. Might have to pay him a visit here on
the blog again. Don't know for sure if anyone was interested in him?

Take care all, Love ya, Granny

Tuesday, all day,

Wow! Thunder, lightning, and much need rain Woke me up last night.
No sunshine, so I won't be doing any painting today. Got the miner
painting almost done.
Still have to get the miner in there before I can really call it a
miner painting. Changed my mind about what to make the miner look
like. Still debating. A lot depends on just where I put him. Think
Granny, Think.

Have a nice day folks, Love ya, Granny

Something new.

Never too old to learn something new.  Today I read in  Geology.com,  that the Ogden Dinosaur Museum  has added two new residents.  A Utahraptor and a Tanystropeus.
They are making the models after the fossils found there in Utah.
The raptor is 7 feet plus tall and had feathers.  Looks like a big chicken.  The other dino has a very long neck.  Interesting.  One can learn a lot on Geology.com.

Weekend.

Up and at em you guys.  It's a beautiful day today.  Sun shining like it has a right to. Maybe I can get some painting done today.  The miner is about half done now.  Working on a couple of small paintings too.

Hope some of the rest of the family will join in on the blog.  Got on facebook myself and neglected to do any posting , so I guess I can't blame you.

Love ya'll, Granny

Friday, May 3, 2019

Well, well well.

I let all of you know I got kicked off facebook.  Have to pester you all through the blog.  Hope you join in.

This is where we were today.  I sat in the shade, read, watched the squirels and the birds.
Phillip went down to the river and panned.  Got lots of fine gold, but no big nuggets.  Too bad.  He did say the water had gone down some and wasn't so cold.  Area where he is working has scads of fine gold.  Have to have a good sucker tube to get it though.  He said someone else has been up there and dug a deep hole in the bank, but he panned some out of their old hole and didn't even get color.  Somebody must have seen him go up there and thought they would find gold too. They would have better luck if they had panned the grass roots.  Lots of fine stuff there.
