And that's when the fight started.

Alls well that ends well.

I would at least like a chance to prove that it wouldn't change me too much.

I think I may not come back for a while. The wire cuts on Phillips hand were never as bad as he was having a fit about. He took the bandaids off and you could hardly see where they were cut. He plans to till the garden spot up tomorrow. Damn tire on the wheel barrow just had to pick now as the time to go tit's up. Had to move a lot of rocks we had piled by the shop out of the way for the fence. I think I counted 23 bucket loads. Sheeeit! Must remember not to pile rocks some place you might want to use for something else later.

Got lots of things to do and not enough time to do it. I must be getting old and lazy.

It's been one of those days.

Since I only live with one other person, it can't be too hard to figure out who.

There was a full blown crisis in effect today on Phillips part. I just barely saved him from a total meltdown. Sheeeesh.

And that's no lie.

Meltdown or not, he did manage to get 8 fence posts in before it happened.

Day a drag for me. I just gave up and played puter games. Well you can't win em all.

At it again.

Had to get another fence post today so we went down by the river and got it.

The rain really helped by making the ground softer so Phillip can dig the rest of the post holes.

He's hoping to get the fence in this weekend.

Tried a few more experiments with the camera. Some didn't turn out like expected. Still have a lot to learn about it.

Thanks!! I needed that.

Rain on and on. We really needed it today. Makes the ground easier for Phillip to dig post holes.

Phillip got this shot of a dragonfly down at the river the other day. He is sitting on the watercress that has just about covered the surface of the river right here.

A clump of pink penstemmons. They are all over the hills in bloom right now. We have seen red and white ones as well but not in the profusion the pink ones are.

I have no idea what these flowers are but they cover the ground like a carpet in some areas.

All these will benefit greatly by the rains today. Forecast is, back to the heat in the next few days. Today was more like the spring we should be having instead of the summer we have gotten so soon again this year. Actually we have winter then summer then winter again, just like last year.
Getting close to bed time and time to get off the puter.

Those pics I promised.

This is a cirus cactus. They can grow quite tall. This cactus is still loaded with fruit from last year. The fruits are small but look big here where I have focused in on them. They have tiny almost invisible fuzzy thorns on them. Too small to pick and hold over a fire to burn the fuzz off. The birds seem to ignore them but the chipmunks usually pick them clean. There were so many plants in this area they still had the fruit despite the critters eating.

Another pic of the creeping murtle that Phillip took.

Holly oak in bloom down by the river. Phillip took this looking upstream toward where we park.

This is a pic of the holly oak in bloom.

Looks like the are going to force the new interface on us wether we want it or not. I guess I better get used to it.

How tired I am!

Today was wash day. We start out plenty early because by the time we get down to Congress where we do laundry, the place could be packed. Try to do it on tuesday because there are not too many people down there then. In fact the place closes on tue. and wed. during the summer because there are not enough people to come in to keep it open. Most of the snowbirds have gone home or back north. After we got done washing we went on out to the river before coming home. Phillip went on a hike and I just took a walk around the area by the river. Lots of birds out gathering nesting material yet. I see where a sparrow hawk has built nest. Last year a large hawk was hanging aroud nesting up in the rocks I think. We saw a big black hawk the other day when we were down there. This is the first one I have seen up close. He was down by the waters edge, either trying to catch some of the small fish there or was getting water bugs or tadpoles. I don't know. I didn't have the camera on me, it was in the rig. I knew he would fly if I went to get it so we just watched him.
I didn't sleep good last night. Got to take the blanket off the bed because I got too warm. I had the window open, but still too hot in the room. Got up into the 80's up here on the bench today, so will be hot again tonight even though there are some clouds coming in. Supposed to have T showers on Wed. Who knows. We sure do need the rain, I hope we get it.

That'll teach em.

Couldn't quite get the hang of it.

Trouble is I can remember just how old I am. Maybe I should be more forgetful.

It really isn't a laughing matter. I really tried to figure out how the darn new interface worked, but I realized that to use it I would have to set the puter to a different size picture and I don't have one that isn't too big or too little, so went back to using the old format since I found out how to do it. Sheeeeesh! Anyway, nevermind!

Volunteer day again.

As usual we went down for a gay old day of doing our thing for the seniors. Down at the church where Phillip has been lugging boxes for the elders, they had started a new way of doing things. They started issuing numbers to the old folks and then they drove their cars up to where Phillip was distributing the boxes, then he loaded them into their cars and didn't have to carry them all over the place. Good idea.

Then he came down to the senior center where I was and they put him to work packing boxes to the distributing point then helping the old folks select what they got. I will say things went much faster than they do when they have to rely on the old gal who runs the thing. She seems to be getting alzhimers because she can't remember anything for 3 seconds anymore. Phillip had the whole works of them getting their stuff and out of the place in less than a half hour. Too bad the old gal is losing it. She would ask Phil;lip what his name was about every every minute or so. She didn't even remember that he wasn't a volunteer there. She just knew she seen him there every 3rd thursday of each month to get me, so she put him to work. Usually he just comes to get me but he made the mistake of hitting the bathroom as soon as he came in, and she spotted him. No biggie for Phillip, he just did what she told him to do and the rest he got from the old folks who picked out what they needed. He even took their boxes out for some of them who got a box too big for them to carry. Just added another half hour to our time. One old gal who works at the center wanted him to be a volunteer sorter for the thrift shop there. Said they would pay so much for gas. Phillip said no dice.

We got the fence posts now, so Phillip will have to dig the holes and set the posts. Have to go up to Prescott tomorrow and get some ready set to put in the holes. Gotta check out some fencing too. Going to have to be strong enough to keep the pigs out and small enough holes to keep rabbits out. Last year I got some rain-gutter screen covering and we used it to cover the rows of new seedlings so the damn birds couldn't eat them as soon as they came up. Worked pretty good. Everything want's the garden.

Brother-Sister bonding time

Well howdy folks! I'm still pluggin' away at my thesis and I think I'll have something pretty darn close to finished by mid-week. Even though I've had my nose in the books and fingers on the keyboard, life hasn't been all dull, mostly dull but not 100% dull. I was able to have some fun this weekend as Sis was in town for her PT (physical therapy) school reunion and we figured we would hit the slopes one last time. The day started off fantastic as Sis scored a free lift ticket. Some dude gave her one of his extra 4-pack tickets.

A "4-pack" is a bundle of tickets you buy ahead of time. For example you can buy bundle of 4 tickets at discounted prices in August for use from November to April. The kicker is that these are not refundable if you do not use them. So if you bought a 4-pack but you didn't get off of the couch all winter, then you made a cash donation to the ski industry. Unfortunately this happens all the time, which is good for the ski and snowboard nuts because they can score their friends un-used tickets. Most of the time people will try to curb their losses by selling (at an even discounted price) their unused tickets, but Sis found a kind soul that said "hey this is going to waste if you don't want it." So the dude gave it to her for nothing. I thought the guy was trying to hit on Sis but she said the guy looked to be in his fifties and didn't ask for a phone number so I guess it was just a cool person being cool.

Here we are taking a "brother is too fat and needs a rest" break in the lodge.

I wasn't sure if both of us could fit on the "two seater" so here's a picture of Sis on the chair ahead of me.

Looking up at the Continental Divide.

Sis right before attacking the slopes!

The last two pictures are some pretty mountain views that I thought were worthy of a picture.

Only in AZ.

This was up at Flagstaff this morning. A foot of snow. They got more later in the day. So did we.

Flurried and drizzled all day. Just hope it don't clear off tonight, or the limbs that are left alive from last years cold spell will surely be goners. Damn near killed the 2 trees last year. Did kill 2 small ones we had planted. They were all leafed out then it froze them. A neighbor lost his big pomagranet tree. He cut it off then it sent up shoots from the stump. Those shoots are just now leafing out. I'll bet he is pissed about now. Neighbor next door has 3 little fruit trees trees he put in last week. Hope he got them covered. They have predicted 19 for tonight. Yet by Wed. it's supposed to be in the 70's here again. Only in AZ.

Damn weather.

Woke up to snow again this morning. All gone now but it is still drizzling out there. I know we need the moisture but we don't need the snow and cold weather. Sheeee-it!! Guess I'll have to stay indoors and play on the puter again today. Sigh!!!

OMG!!!

Watch out!! It's friday the 13th.

It was a cold, cloudy, windy, nasty day. Only thing to do was stay inside and play puter games.

Any way I did but Phillip made banana bread for the freezer. Wed. at the farmers market we got bananas 5 pounds for a dollar. They were very ripe. Perfect for banana bread. He plans to make another batch tomorrow. Rest of the bananas he will freeze to make banana, zucchini bread later. He also made a meat loaf while he had the oven on and hot.

Iv'e been playing Beetle bomp and losing more than winning. I'm just not into that game very well. Phillip and I finished the pet detective game. I was playing the hoyle games as well today along with solitaire. Sitting on my butt and recouperating from a pretty hectic week.

Oh!!

Don't you agree?

Fungus amungus. This grows on a tree down by the river.

Seemed like it. Met with a couple from Minnesota, staying down at North Ranch. They had heard about us and wanted a tour to get pretty rocks. Hmmmmm. Lots of those around. So we took them out toward the bench above the canyon. Lots of pretty rocks there. They went Gaga at all the pretty rocks there were. So many chunks of agate, opal, quartzite and rhyolite laying all over some of the old indian encampments, they could pick up a 5 gallon bucket full in a half an hour. All we had to do was show them the place and they went right to town gathering rocks. They had no rock picks so we let them use ours. Phillip took the swede saw and went looking for fence posts for the garden and I looked for arrowheads. I found one and Phillip found 4 fence posts and cut the limbs off up to the 8 foot high, and peeled them. Next week we will cut the junipers down and bring them home. By next week they won't be so sticky to handle.

The folks from MN were happy as clams with the pretty rocks. Gal had brought a pan and water to clean them with and spent the rest of the time before lunch cleaning them. They didn't cull out too many of them. They said they wanted to incorporate them in the rim of a fish pond in their back yard. I gave them a bag of white quartz crystal clusters and one of chips I picked up to tumble that came from the Bagdad area. They are heading back to MN at the end of the month.

The weather report for today said it was to be cloudy and windy and much cooler. It was a beautiful clear day. Cool enough to wear a sweatshirt for me, but the rest were in shirtsleeves.

Snice!! as Phillip says.

Past my bedtime and I'm pooped. Nite all. Granny

Indian hangouts.

These hideouts are high above the river. Would have been great for winter living but they would have stayed closer to the river in the summer I bet. Found chips, a broken matate and manos down below. When they put the highway through they bulldozed most of the artifacts over the bank and covered them up to make the road bed along the cliffs at the bottom. We found a broken matate not far from where we park when we are down there. It was in the rocks and stuff pushed over the hill. We park along the old road where they forded the river before the bridge was built. Heavy loads still have to use the ford instead of going over the narrow bridge.
