There are not a whole lot of flowers down on the desert this year. It was wet last spring and a lot of flowers germinated but then it turned off hot and what flowers that survived the heat were quite small and most of them died before they could reseed. We found patches of flowers in a few spots and took a few pictures. The first one is Owl Clover and thje second is Lupins. Owl clover is only 3 inches tall. Usually it grows in huge patches that cover the ground in a fushia blanket. A lot of the lupins grow along side the roads and benefits from the runoff of rain from the pavement.
Besides taking pictures Phillip and I have been getting loads of manure for the garden which Phillip has expanded and has mostly planted. All we need now is some warm weather.
There are 4 families of birds in the bird house. I guess they finally decided they could stand each other as neighbors. Last year only 2 famlies got along. The little green " chard eaters" came back to their nest in the cactus in the front yard. I counted 7 tiny eggs in it. Phillip will have a fit when they all hatch out and go after the chard. He had some seeds left over from last year and i suggested planting it out front and maybe they would stay out of the garden. Then again maybe the pigs would eat it all out there where there isn't a fence to keep them out.
Never knew when the bluebirds went back north this year. Usually the robins came and eat all the hack berries from the tree in front and then all would leave and go north about the same time. This year the robins never showed up. The vultures usually show up around the middle of March and they were right on time. The hummingbirds hit up here on the bench the first part of April. Got to get the feeder out and filled.
We went out and got some walking sticks. Don't know why but a lot of them split as they dried out. And they had a tendency to bow. Going to have to find some more that are maybe greener.
Real weird. Who know why.
